Lately my daughter has taken to wearing ties. She loves the unique aspect of throwing a tie on with a shirt that is completely without a collar or sometimes shirts with collars. It’s something she owns quite well without any inhibitions, even though she is sometimes the only one at school engaging in such a trend. It’s great fun searching for the perfect tie to make an outfit just a little extra special…especially in a size that fits a 10 year old! (Thankfully, J. Crew has some stylish options for kids.)
But let’s face it, Diane Keaton really popularized ties on women in the late 1970’s in Woody Allen’s award winning film Annie Hall. There was something about her character that was incredibly strong and managed to influence countless women of that era. It somehow didn’t seem so odd to reach for billowy skirts, mannish blazers, ties or boots. Anyone can say she has a very “Annie Hall look” and that defining image will come to mind!
Our friend, Director Claire Vogel, (whose fashion we have been featuring here over the past several weeks) somehow manages to “embrace the tie” by creating her own trend and style. She can take a bow tie, a skinny tie or even a bolo tie, and manage to have it seem as effortless as putting on a gold chain necklace. Each look it’s own, sometimes casual and sometimes just plain fun. Let’s face it, everyone loves a good tie!
Bravo Jadyn! To be unique and proud of it, is a wonderful gift.
