Not that long ago a dear friend Bestowed upon us a 1970’s recipe box of specialty cocktails. This was likely passed along because of the enthusiasm the box ignited in me at the time. It instantly reminded me of youth and being able to behold many a cocktail party our parents threw for all their friends. These parties were always an entertaining part of Summer. Just some of the delights growing up in the ’70s that also included: bike rides with friends until dark, trips to the lake and jumping through sprinklers. These moments ‘oft defined our Summers and our youth.
For the 4th of July, we thought it only fitting to recreate one of the many specialty cocktails found in this cherished box for your tasting pleasure! How better to celebrate the birth of Independence?
Remember: stay safe, don’t drink and drive and make sure your fireworks aren’t actually setting fires!
Singapore Sling (from the 2 in 1 International Recipe Card Collection)
1 ½ Jiggers Gin (ounces will work too)
½ Jigger Cherry Brandy (or cherry liqueur)
2 tsp Lime Juice
2 tsp Lemon Juice
1 tsp Sugar
Club soda (or sparkling water works as well)
Shake well with ice and pour over ice cubes into a glass. Top with soda or sparkling water and garnish with lime slice.
Cheers! Enjoy the 4th of July!
