Designed by respected architect William Krisel, the Racquet Club Road Estates were established in 1959 and built by the Alexander Construction Company. These were reasonably priced homes mainly intended as second vacation homes. Modestly sized by today’s standards, they exude the mid-century modern vernacular with soaring rooflines, post & beam construction and open floor plans. There is also a very indoor/outdoor feel mainly attributed to the lot size, making the properties feel quite airy. These homes cost $19,000 new and an optional swimming pool could be added for only $950… keeping the total cost below $20,000!
Other Alexander built homes in the Racquet Club neighborhood are from well-known architects of the era such as Donald Wexler and Jack & Bernie Meiselman.
These homes are still generally vacation destinations…now, of course, with more modern conveniences than 1959 had to offer but still with all their original charm. There is definite comfort and style in renting one of these properties for your desert getaway and the Infante Family’s “Pad360” is one of our own personal favorites.
The space is large enough to sleep 14 but comfortable enough not to get lost in if you are a smaller family of 3 or 4. The house was lovingly restored by the Infante’s with it’s rich history in mind and gives you the immediate sense that you’re experiencing vintage Palm Springs from the late 1950’s. Enjoy a dirty martini pool side with some Sinatra in the background…Pad360 is a true desert sanctuary!
