Once and a while you find that perfect piece of footwear you just can’t live without. It sticks with you; maybe helps define a certain part of your sensibilities, something people remember because it so suited your personality at that particular time in your life. For me it’s boots. I’ve always loved boots. I still have way too many pairs of boots, (can you really have too many?), living in a climate that doesn’t really require them as much. When I was in my 20’s, my style was defined by cowboy boots and baby doll dresses. Courtney Love just burst onto the scene and set a tone with her style, in ways like Madonna did years before. But my cowboy boots were worn with everything. Shorts, skirts, dresses…they were my staple and still the best piece of footwear! Comfortable and sexy, I literally wore them until they had holes. These days my style is more refined which suits my personality at this particular point in my life but I’ll always remember those cowboy boots.
We’ve recently been focusing on the style of artist/director Claire Vogel. Claire told me a story about her red hiking boots that she wore on her travels through Iceland and Paris:
I bought these red on red boots for my trip to Iceland and Paris a couple days before I left. I had a sudden vision of striding around Paris and Hiking over glaciers in red boots. When I was a kid living in England, I had a pair of amazing red cowboy boots that I wore everywhere with everything and I loved every photo taken with them. These hiking boots ended up making all my socks red, but I love them just the same. Last year when I was in Iceland I ended up having to layer 4 sweaters, tights and pants on top of each other therefore forgoing my fashion for not freezing to death. This time around my photos have this little pop of my fashion statement in them without forgoing the warmth of the layers that were required. I love the color red and really enjoyed having them so much.
