This week, friend and wardrobe stylist Jessica B. Simpson offers a glimpse at Fall 2014 Fashion trends…
* * *
The days are getting shorter and the light is starting to get that particular glow. It’s nearly Fall and though it can still feel like Summer in L.A., until Halloween, I am excited to bring on this season’s Fall fashion trends.
This past week the Spring/Summer 15′ shows opened at the Mercedes Benz NY Fashion Week. The runway looks carried over some of the looks set during last season’s Fall 2014 fashion week. To get reacquainted, I have compiled a list of key Fall 14′ looks and my favorite show picks.
Lady in Red / Pretty in Pink
For Fall fashion the colors are Reds and Pinks. Think warm tones, not so much the earthy colors we usually associate with this season. Mix and match the two together or combine with a navy or brown for an unexpected combination moving away from black. Collections from DKNY and Narcisco Rodriguez showed “Pretty in Pink” looks with matching lip color.
Beat Street
Another Fall fashion trend is sportswear. At Rebecca Taylor and Alexander Wang models were shown pairing a dress with an athletic inspired jacket or cropped track pants that could be worn to the gym then out to lunch with friends. Sneakers with a dress or skirt were seen on many of the catwalks, vice versa heels with athletic inspired pieces.
Nordic Trac
Big wools and chunky knit sweaters paired with jeans or a leather skirt.
Patterns or solids in a bright color or neutral creams work for this look and can be worn day to night with the right accessories.
And last but NOT least my favorite trend….
Swinging ’60’s
The era was ’60’s at many of the collections. Shown at Valentino were early-to-mid ’60’s ladylike Mod with a great pop of color and prints. Have fun with this one. Think knee-high mod boots or a funky swing coat over a dress or jeans and a t-shirt.
5 Fave Closet picks for fall 2014:
• Wool pea coat in navy.
• Swing coat jacket in a bold print.
• A line knee length leather or faux leather skirt.
• A ladylike ’60’s dress in a solid or fun print.
• Poppy print silk shirt in red or pink hues.
Mix and match new with vintage, or vintage inspired prints. Brands like: Zara, H&M and Madewell will offer nods from the runway for a fraction of the runway cost.

Summer may be nearly over but the fashion fun has just begun as we welcome back “sweater weather.” Pick up a few new pieces for your closet and love what you wear, clothing is an extension of your personality and should always make you feel good.
